Housing for Health, Australia – an update
Housing for Health, where it all began, has been running in low income communities around Australia for over 30 years. The aim being to improve the health of people, particularly children 0-5 years of age, by ensuring they have access to safe, well functioning housing and an improved living environment. The HfH survey and fix work process in the mostly indigenous communities has been completed in over 8,300 houses to date.
Since Healthabitat’s decision in 2011 to not continue working with Federal Government funding, HH has continued working with individual communities and NSW Health. Over the next 3 years, another estimated 500 houses (approximately 15 communities) will be done.
