Learn MoreSafety and the 9 HLPs in order of priority link the living environment and its contribution to people’s poor health. They are based on best-practice public health knowledge and apply globally. Life-threatening issues have the highest priority followed by washing people, especially children 0-5.
Learn MoreEach project needs to demonstrate real improvement, not just the spending of money and the doing of work. There would be little point in continually fixing poorly designed and built houses. Healthabitat’s survey data reveals that over 74% of poor performing living environments is a result of lack of routine maintenance.
Learn MoreAll HfH projects gather before and after data to ensure house function is improved. Through targeting the HLPs we know our work improves the health function of the living environment which in turn is likely to have the greatest impact on health.
Learn MoreOver 3/4 of all staff in all Australian projects are local Indigenous people. Local staff rates on all international projects are higher. Healthabitat has consistently looked at ways to engage, encourage and make the work environment safe so that local people are actively involved in all aspects of the work. They have the greatest vested interest in improving their living environment and will remain in the community to maintain the environment when the other members of the project team have left.
Learn MoreStart small…small, incremental changes aimed at improving people’s health through the living environment allows us to know where to best spend money to improve health. This work is guided along by experts from various fields who make up Healthabitat and its family.
