Paul Pholeros Memorial at University of Newcastle
On 12 October, friends, family and students gathered at the University of Newcastle to celebrate the life and work of Paul Pholeros.
The student-led event included speeches and presentations which focussed on Paul’s influence on the students he taught and mentored, for whom he was a champion and a guiding light, his contribution to architecture and his giant presence in the architectural community and the broader public. The evening was also an opportunity to discuss the ongoing work of Healthabitat and how the organisation will continue to build on Paul’s legacy with the aim of “stopping people getting sick”, in particular with the input of students.
The University opened its Red Square Lecture Theatre to host the occasion and those who attended enjoyed a BBQ, drinks and a yarn around the fire.
At the edge of the gathering, nine panels were displayed, each bearing a sketch depicting one of the nine Healthy Living Practices. Next to the panels sat a few pots of paint and some brushes and those gathered were invited to add colour to the sketches over the course of the evening
Thanks to all those who organised and attended this celebration and many thanks to those who sent their support – we hope that you will continue to add to, and build on Healthabitat’s work.
