Navajo Nation Water Project – Survey Fix

The CPC Navajo Nation week kicked off with a Housing for Health survey-fix of the 10 houses being improved by the Community Plumbing Challenge. As on all Housing for Health projects we started with training of a dedicated team of local residents to carry out the survey-fix.

Over 2 days the survey-fix teams used the standardized Housing for Health survey which checked and tested over 250 things in each house; testing of all power outlets, lights switches, light fixtures, earth connections, testing of hot water temperature, drains, showers, toilets, bathroom sinks, baths, kitchens and hot water systems. Every part of each house that has a direct impact on Safety and the 9 Healthy Living Practices (HLPs).

When the team completed their survey in each house, they put down their clip board, picked up their tool kit and started some immediate fix work – no survey without fix.

The data collected was used to generate the jobs for the CPC teams to fix over the following week. The aim; to prioritise work and fix all the critical things that have an impact on safety and ability of a family to carry out critical healthy living practices – having a shower, removing waste water etc. The data from work completed at the end of the week will then be compared to the initial data collected by the local survey-fix team; providing a snapshot of the healthy living practice improvements achieved by the CPC teams.
