February 16th, 2011

Healthabitat has just been notified that we have won the Australian Institute of Architects 2011 Leadership in Sustainability Prize.

Below is an excerpt from the letter confirming the prize and team.  To view a one page summary of the entry, based on the idea that sustaining people has been a key role played by architecture through the Housing for Health program, click here.

“2011 Leadership in Sustainability Prize

Dear Paul,
Congratulations, I am delighted to confirm that you and your HealthHabitat team have been selected as the recipient of the 2011 Leadership in Sustainability Prize.

The Jury was impressed with your extensive research and commitment to ‘sustaining people’. To be able to engage and work with local communities, to identify key issues that need to be addressed, and to therefore improve individual and group health, through simple technological change must be very fulfilling.

The high calibre of entries received is a clear indication that there are many exceptional leaders
displaying an outstanding contribution to the advancement of sustainability of the built environment, and that is heartening.

I look forward to presenting this award to you at the Australian Achievement in Architecture Awards, to be held in the Perth State Theatre Centre Thursday 24 March 2011.”

Kind regards,
Karl Fender
