What do you bring to the HH work?
22 years living and working with indigenous Australians, with a focus on healthy housing and employment over the last 17years.
Years involved with Housing for Health work (including R&D work)?
10 yearsWhat have you learned from being involved in the work?
I have learned of the fundamental importance of family and family life. The persistent failure of housing design, construction and maintenance of houses in indigenous communities continues to contribute to health outcomes that impact negatively on the ability of indigenous people to lead full and active family lives and to provide healthy living environments for their children. The housing for health approach is a practical and effective way to implement improvements to the housing environment and the health of the people.
In an ideal world what directions, ideas, results would you like to see HH and the Housing for Health work become or achieve?
I would like to see the HH methodology integrated into all areas of public/social housing in order to promote a more health focussed perspective, where overall tenant well-being is the central aim for housing service delivery.
