| Why the work is important |
Over 22 years the work, based on the Housing for Health principles, has made immediate positive change in peoples lives. It has also led to long term change in the acceptance of the role of the living environment to health |
| Some thoughts |
The great pleasure of the work has always been working with a wide variety of creative, skilled people. Over 75% of all those participating in the projects are local Indigenous people who see a real urgency about the work. The mix of electricians, medical doctors, engineers, carpenters, welders, teachers, students, eye doctors, plumbers, government workers at every level from ministers to general office workers has been extraordinary. Each has brought skills that collectively improve the living environment of Indigenous Australian. More recently the work has been examined and the principles adopted by New Zealand, USA and Nepal. I hope these international links can be strengthened during the next few years. |
